Employment challenges facing Individuals with Additional Needs:

Individuals with additional needs, whether physical, sensory, cognitive, or neurodivergent—face persistent barriers when it comes to securing and sustaining meaningful employment. These challenges are not due to a lack of ability or ambition, but often stem from outdated attitudes, inaccessible recruitment practices, and a lack of inclusive support in many workplaces.

Yet, those who navigate the world with additional challenges often demonstrate exceptional qualities: resilience, determination, adaptability, and creativity. These are not just admirable traits, they’re highly valuable assets in any workforce.

Despite this, the employment gap remains stark. According to the Office for National Statistics, only 54% of working-age disabled people in the UK are in employment, 29 percentage points lower than their non-disabled peers. For individuals with learning disabilities or autism, the figures are often even lower.

At Prospera Impact CIC, in partnership with Equilibrium Careers, we are committed to challenging these inequalities. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with additional needs are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive in the workplace. Through tailored support, employer engagement, and stigma-breaking advocacy, we aim to create a future where talent is recognised by ability, not limited by assumption.
